But are multivitamins really that effective?
There have been much noise about this recently, as a news article came out saying that studies conducted with over 182,000 participants on the effectiveness of over-the-counter multivitamins on cancer and cardiovascular disease prevention said that they are mostly ineffective.
In my opinion, this has largely to do with the quality, composition and time that you take your multivitamins. If you bought your supplements at discount stores you may not be getting your money's worth, because those products typically use cheap synthetic isolates and may have more binders and extenders. I also found that taking my vitamins about 15 minutes after a meal seems to have a better effect. For me. ;)
But then again, the only synthetic nutrition I take is Vitamin C, and then I included natural brewer's yeast tablets to the mix. I learned through research that those "mega-dose" formulations can be quite harmful in the long run, so I chose to stay with the simplest vitamin sources I have proven to work for my own body. Now I added Chews4Health to my daily nutritional regimen and have found it to be vastly superior to all the other supplements I've tried before, from the cheap ones to the expensive.
Millions of people across the globe consume these "mega-vitamins (synthetic vitamins)", only to acquire and die from degenerative diseases in the long run. This is because isolated vitamins are partial vitamins, combined with other chemicals. They're a low-end alternative to whole, real complete food.
When you remove a part from the whole, you get ‘Synthetic,' ‘Isolated,' or ‘Fractionated' pieces of the whole, but it's simply not the same. And taking these "isolates" can actually disrupt your body's nutrient balance with negative after-effects surfacing only after a prolonged period.
To be clearer about the subject, these are the four problems with taking synthetic vitamins…
1. As organic beings, Mother Nature intended for us to consume foods in WHOLE form, with all the nutrients - vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and enzymes together in one complete and balanced package. They work synergistically to give your body the nutrition it requires for optimal health.
2. Due to its incomplete nature, nutrient isolates of can only be absorbed by our bodies in very small percentages. You can only get the best bioavailability of nutrients in whole food form.
3. Lab-created or Synthetic vitamins often give you massive quantities of only some nutrients (usually the most inexpensive ones) and insufficient quantities of others. This can lead to over-dosage and severe biological imbalance, especially if taken regularly for long periods.
4. Adverse side effects are common with taking synthetic isolates due to its unnatural state and origin. Many synthetic vitamins and minerals are actually made from or used petroleum based chemicals and other harmful or even toxic substances in its manufacture.
We are already living a very unhealthy lifestyle with the way our developed world works. Let's not add to our bodies' stresses by giving it artificial and unnatural nutrition.
If we really wanted to make ourselves healthier, we have to make an effort to add more fresh fruits and vegetables to our daily diets. For these are the natural foods that we were intended to derive our nutrition from. This would make a real and significant contribution to your health, especially if you've already adopted healthy lifestyle practices like regular exercise and portion control.
